“A man should look as if he had bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care, and then forgotten all about them.”
- Hardy Amies
Personally, I have never focused on having my own personal style until last year. I always avoided it as if it was something that I could not achieve. People have always told me that I should think about style more. I then would follow that comment up with a quick huff and sigh.
I picked the above quote because it really spoke to me and how I feel about personal style. I have friends that go outside just to have folks look at them. Then I have friends such as Steven (below) that stay true to what I believe is the definition of a man with style. I truly believe that if you would like to achieve a certain level of style, you have to forget about what you are wearing. If you have to think about getting people to notice your style, you're doing it wrong. After all, its not what you are wearing...but WHO is wearing it. Steven put this suit on, walked outside and thats it. Now I am not a fashion guru and of course this is all my personal opinion, but I think a lot of people agree with me. My personal style usually consists of a plain color T-shirt, cuffed black jeans, low slip on style shoes and a beanie. Some compliment me and some don't, but I don't think about it.
When I usually work with Steven, we just walk and chat. Matter of fact, this is what I do at all of my shoots. I walk around, chat about life and shoot some images. On this day, Steven and I walked around, talked about the city and shot some images. Not once did we speak about what he was wearing. We didn't have to, because I wasn't speaking to his suit...I was speaking to him.
